The Broken Windshield Wiper

with 6 comments

021-BrokenWiper

Us Abbamondi folk…we’re like everyday MacGyvers I tell you. I actually first suggested using the string on an extra air freshener in my car so I’m not totally perfect as a resourceful secret agent, but I promise I’m working on it.

Anyways, after the car problems were finished up, all of us went out to eat at Carino’s Italian Restaurant. We nom nomed, we caught up, and afterwards we all went our separate ways (well, not me–I stayed in my apartment for the evening). It was a very nice visit, all-in-all, and hopefully I’ll get down to South Jersey some time in September/October…

Give me all your stuff
Until I can’t get up
Watch the whole world freeze
Counting tin cans in our sleep
Submarines are diving deep
And don’t believe in me

Rain’s a Pain, Snow’s for Hoes

with 8 comments

2008-12-16

Oh, that Momma Dukes! Weeks later, when I told her I’d be drawing a comic about this little conversation nugget, she had no recollection of ever saying it. Hmm. Someone needs to eat more blueberries. Or play Brain Age.

Question of the day: Would you rather be caught in the rain or buried in the snow?

It’s gonna take a lot of time
Before I can cross that finish line
And when I can’t take the fall
I really wanna make that call

Cleaning the Gutters is Fun for the Whole Family

2008-11-27

I’m officially now an expert on the taste of wet pine needles, old leaves, and brown clumps of glob. Thankfully, sometime later, we all had a yummy Thanksgiving dinner, my first since I’ve fallen off the bandwagon and now eat meat like the rest of you animals. The turkey (dark) meat was quite good, but nothing beats Momma Duke’s lumpless mashed potatoes. Her earlier mocking laughter as a shower of crap rained on my head is forgiven for it alone.

Woke up with a bang
And a bug on your face
It crawled in your mouth
And gave you a taste
Of the good life you left behind
But I think you’re gonna be fine

My Cell Phone Ringtone Scares Me Like Woah

with 2 comments

2008-11-19

Trust me. You don’t want to hear my phone’s ring. It brings weathered warriors to their knees, it summons Godzilla, it sucks all the happiness from a room. Um, it also causes my hand to jump and send a line of ink shooting across my paper. Me thinks me needs to keep it on vibrate when I’m drawing from now on…

Now I think I’m going down to the well tonight
And I’m going to drink till I get my fill
And I hope when I get old
I don’t sit around thinking about it
But I probably will

Momma Dukes Takes My Picture

with 9 comments

2008-10-25b

Don’t hate, she’s still getting the hang of this…technology thing. Did you know they say “whiskey” in Latin American countries and “potato” in Spain when it comes to picture-taking? No? Well, now you do.

Now if she does it like this
Will you do it like that?

Kissing Goodbye Before the Entire World

with 5 comments

2008-10-25

Despite the irony that my initials spell out PDA, I’ve never been one to really smooch in front of family…or more pertinently, in front of the smoochie’s family. I’m such a dorkasaur that I even asked Tara beforehand if it’d be okay to kiss her goodbye, and still, the nervousness came. Oh well. We smooched, the world didn’t burn us to the ground, and as I turned to leave her embrace I tripped over a pot cemented to the ground.

Goooooooooooooo me!

Conceptual paths wide open, I’m scared to death
Existential weight no longer holds you back
Conceptual paths wide open, I’m scared to death
I’m ready for the future, I’m ready for what happens next

Calling Down to Momma Dukes

with 9 comments

She didn’t hear a single call. Sigh…

I know I’m a bit behind here at MyLifeComics, but I will catch up as best as I can over the next few days. These upcoming weeks will be doozies, and I just want to thank y’all for your patience and for checking back in here at the site now and again.

Also, here’s a bit of a plug: reader TK42one did a handful of comics the other week. Go forth and check them out!

#358 – Hitting a Possum

with 13 comments

Personally, I think it’s in a ditch somewhere. ::sad face::

So, the weekend was crazy good. Lots of food and wine and DSing and hanging out with the family. Plus, lots of thingies happened. If you ever decide to draw a comic strip about your day-to-day life, go home every now and then. Fodder up the wazoo! I probably won’t remember most of it when it comes time to d-d-draw though. Oh wells. C’est la vie. Momma Dukes had a nice b-day at home, replete with kabobs and bony shad and strawberry-laden desserts. She sure knows how to turn 35 in style! 😛

Oh, Trina, there was one license plate that caught my eye on the drive down to my folks’ pad; it said: I DIVE. Thought you’d appreciate that one.

But for now, I will go and pass out. Cause it’s back to work I go…

Question of the day: How was your Memorial Day and did you really pay honest-to-goodness money to see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? Tsk tsk. Should’ve seen Prince Caspian, like D and I did. Cause, y’know, we’re awesome like that.

If I could, I’d make up a world as foggy as I feel, and tender as a nerve
The glass of our heads, upon which we stood
And said if I could I’d break these doubting words in your head
I would break this doubting world from our head
If I could, I would tear this love from no one

#346 – Day with D and Momma Dukes

with 9 comments

There were several other things that happened with my day of D and Momma Dukes. One, they brought the good weather with them, turning the gloomy morning into a beautiful afternoon. Two, we got to watch some stereotypical Italians be…stereotypical. And three, um…we split a sleeve of Thin Mints for dessert in my apartment. I know, I know. You’re jealous. Well, that’s just how things unfold when we all get together. We’re a party, I tell you.

So, generally speaking, I’m not a big fan of comic/art memes. Mostly cause I never have time to do them. And they are always, always popping up, and the latest one just could not be ignored. Dave Valeza started a thing where artists must draw their teen selves in comparison with their now selves. Who am I to say no to such a fun idea? Here’s what I came up with:

But if I built you a city, would you let me in?
Would you tear it down?

#341 – Feist Album

with 9 comments

You’ve heard of Feist, right? If not, here’s a refresher:

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand now that song will be in my head for the next 18 hours. One, two, three, four, so many pretty colors, colors galore…

Question of the day: What was the last CD you bought? I don’t mean downloaded off of iTunes. A real, physical CD. If your answer, however, is either Kidz Bop 13 or Monks Gone Punk: The Chants of the Night, you need to take a good, long look at your life and re-evaluate what truly matters.

N’allez jamais trop vite
Vous avez tout le temps
Attention à la dynamite
Prenez garde aux volcans
A ces jeunes énervés
Qui ne savent pas aller
