New journal comics over at These Sweet Memories

leave a comment »

So, the last update here on MyLifeComics was a comic about getting married in two months. And here’s an update to that, some two three months later. I got married! Look, here’s proof:

Mmm…cake.

Anyways, I never got to announce the true end of MyLifeComics, but yeah…it’s over.Sorry, kids. I’m rebranding my journal comics over at These Sweet Memories. If you were a fan of what I did here, please continue to follow the adventures of my sometimes boring, sometimes not-so-boring life over there. And tell everybody you know; it’s hard starting out fresh all over again. Link, link, link is as follows:

Getting married in two months and there’s lots to do

with 5 comments

There’s more thingies that could be added here, but…uh, I ran out of paper.

Two months left to live in the bachelorhood (see, that’s funny cause it’s almost sounds like living in the neighborhood), but really all that means to me is two months left until Tara time. It’s going to go fast and slow and crazy wild. Wish us luck!

Leave what you know now
Put those feelings underground
Fill your heart with strange new sound

Quiznos Closing

with 8 comments

To say I was shocked to see that my local Quiznos is closing puts it mildly. First, some perspective. I moved into the area at the tail end of 2005 and for the first few months there were only a handful of sandwich shop options, most of which were very inconvenient to get to or get out of (hello, Route 46). Then a few months later, a Quiznos opened in the small shopping center where I hit up the videogame store, the Dollar Tree, and the liquor shop. It was perfect, right on the way home from work. And so I went to them and ate a lot of sandwichs and drew a bunch of comics about my adventures there. Let’s take a stroll down Memory Lane…

Whew. I’m sure there’s other comics I’ve missed, but I don’t have time to go back through the archives. Let me know if I missed any good ones.

In closing, I am sad. Whatever sandwich shop becomes my new home will always remind me of that Seinfeld episode where George had to eat at Reggie’s diner instead of Monk’s Cafe. Sigh.

Local Quiznos, you have graced my life more than you will ever know. Thanks for everything!

Crazy how it feels tonight
Crazy how you make it all all right, love
You crush me with the things you do
I do for you anything too
Sitting, smoking, feeling high
In this moment it feels so right

French Toast is Everyone’s Favorite Drink

with 6 comments

For some reason, I really struggled with this one. It’s definitely more of an in-joke sort of journal comic, and even then, conveying what was so funny/adorable about this diner moment was hard. That third panel got redrawn a few times. At one point, there were laughing, floating heads. Yeah, I dunno.

But I drew it. It is done.

Next on the list? Wedding registry comic. Oh boyyy…

Well, the rain exploded with a mighty crash
As we fell into the sun
And the first one said to the second one there

Kill Yourself Over Tuna

with 11 comments

Attention! Attention! All sandwich shops! You’re going to want to stock up on tuna for the next several Fridays until Lent is over. It is going to be a popular item. That is all.

Also, I walked by the Quiznos today and saw the same girl working so I guess she didn’t end it after all. The weight upon my soul has lifted…

So here I am above palm trees
So straight and tall
You are smaller, getting smaller
But I still see you

We Are Sushi Coma

with 4 comments

To make this post even more exciting, I’m going to list everything we gorged on tonight:

  • Bowl of edamame (salty, yummy)
  • Spicy tuna rolls (with bonus crunchies!)
  • Philadelphia rolls (cream cheese sushi is something you have to experience)
  • San Fransisco rolls (a new one for us; pretty good)
  • Dragon Tempura rolls (we splurged for this, and it was hard to eat, but we soldiered on nonetheless)
  • Green tea ice cream (best way to cool down, yo)
  • It was a meal fit for kings and queens…and us.

    Everybody’s got new orders
be a nice girl and kiss the warders
    now the teacher is away
all the kids begin to play

    The Broken Windshield Wiper

    021-BrokenWiper

Us Abbamondi folk…we’re like everyday MacGyvers I tell you. I actually first suggested using the string on an extra air freshener in my car so I’m not totally perfect as a resourceful secret agent, but I promise I’m working on it.

Anyways, after the car problems were finished up, all of us went out to eat at Carino’s Italian Restaurant. We nom nomed, we caught up, and afterwards we all went our separate ways (well, not me–I stayed in my apartment for the evening). It was a very nice visit, all-in-all, and hopefully I’ll get down to South Jersey some time in September/October…

    Give me all your stuff
    Until I can’t get up
    Watch the whole world freeze
Counting tin cans in our sleep
    Submarines are diving deep
    And don’t believe in me

    Winning the Lottery

    010-WinningLottery

Aw, poor Momma Dukes. Everyone wish her a happy birthday to make up for this (it was yesterday and the entire country had the day off from work in celebration so you owe her something)!

Anyways, this took place at the school my oldest sister teaches at so all money went to a good cause. Lots of food baskets or um…girly baskets (think: lotions, creams, smelly stuff). But truly, I hit the jackpot. It’s been at least four months now and thanks to this wonderfully-themed basket I’ve yet to have to purchase any coffee from the grocery store. Here’s some good artwork that accompanied my free goodies:

Thanks again, Mrs. Tran’s 4th grade class! You rock with your coffee donations. But, alas, not every item in the coffee basket was a winner, as evidenced below:

Bonus Comics from August 2008, Part Three

    with 2 comments

I see these posts are very popular with the WordPress crowd. /sarcasm

Two more bonus comics, one capturing the actual moment when “I love you”s were both finally exchanged after the initial slippage (aren’t you jealous you yourself don’t have such documentation of your SO’s adoration and affection for you to refer to through all of time?):

    2008-08-17B

And then there’s this one about ordering Chinese food:

    2008-08-19B

Speaking of that, tonight is the season 5 finale of LOST and I’m thinking I need to throw myself a lonesome party and get some general tso chicken. Yes? Yes.

Follow me down through the streets of the states
Make up a reason not to come for old time sake
Nothing in this town could ever change
Except maybe new lines on your face
