A sign I’ve been playing too much Scribblenauts

with 5 comments

scribblenauters

Yup. Both Tara and I have been playing Scribblenauts lately, and we’re of the same mind that it’s fun, but flawed. Still, the art direction is fantastic, and for that I do fanart!

Bonus points will be awarded to those commenting if they refrain from using “aww” and/or “cute.”

Also, this is somewhat funny and sad:

Sky hangs heavy in lowest light
As the day slips down past the sun
Black and blue in the forest green
Shadows are gone, they have run

It’s here, people.

Should I get away
From the high heels so proud
Is there something different
Life can show me now

“More to Love” ruins my night

with 7 comments

025-MoreLove

The only silver lining to this cloud is that it’s the show’s season finale.

Someone please call me a DONKEY or tell me to MOVE YOUR ASS so that I can sleep comforted tonight by the sweet sounds that is Ramsey on a Rampage. Seriously, do this.

I opened my eyes last night and saw you in the low light
Walking down by the bay, on the shore
Staring up at the planes that aren’t there anymore
I was feeling the night grow old and you were looking so cold
Like an introvert, I drew my over shirt

Season Two of True Blood is over, let the bloody tears run free

with one comment

truebloodgames

The above is how the scene originally ran in True Blood‘s Season Two finale, but it got edited down due to time restraints. Alas…

Anyways, just finished up watching the latest blood-filled finale and while Season Two was pretty good, it definitely was not as strong as Season One. Many minor characters came forward to get spotlighted, which was nice and welcome, but Bill and Sookie’s relationship turned bland and the Fellowship of the Sun parts were a little predictable.

So, the positive parts:

  • Eggs totally got scrambled
  • “Worship it, bitches!” – Lafayette
  • Jessica and Hoyt story arc, with a surprising twist at its conclusion
  • Eric crying bloody tears
  • Eric flying
  • Eric in general
  • Jason questioning the nature that is Sam Merlotte, and Andy putting up with it
  • Teacup humans

And now the cons:

  • Eggs totally getting scrambled was a cop out
  • Maryanne story arc ran a little too long and the sex-frenzy parties stopped being weird and eventually just became the status-quo for Bon Temps
  • The wholly black eyes were a neat trick at first…at first
  • Sookie should be learning more about herself and her abilities, not doing things and then being all la la la, look at me
  • The Queen didn’t really feel any different than Bill’s maker, whatshername, which is a shame

But I am, however, sad the show is over and must wait until next year for Season Three to begin. This season’s cliffhanger isn’t enough to dry me crazy, thankfully. It’s quite ho-hum actually. Overall I give Season Two of True Blood three vampire cupcakes out of five:

Offering a Sign of Peace

with 6 comments

024-PeaceSign

In case it’s not clear on what is happening in that third and final panel, let me use words to explain what my drawing skills cannot: Tara and I were giving each other a sign of peace, first with a peck on the lips and then moving on to kiss each other’s cheek…except we both turned into each other’s face and ended up smushing our faces together. We then spent the next five minutes trying not to giggle over this because, y’know, we were in church.

And it seems that’s not the place where you belong
And it seems that’s not the place where you belong
When there’s no sun and there’s no moon
And there’s no stars, child, have you gone crazy

29 / 50 comics. 58% done!

Time stopped
I mean it left us and went on ahead
And we spent the whole day complaining
About how we didn’t want to get out of bed

Supertowned myself

with 3 comments

supertownme

Listen, people. I gotta be honest here. If there’s one thing that I’d like to achieve in this eat-sleep-work life of mine, it’s that one day someone will draw something–a picture, a comic, a sketch, anything–in my style. And people will recognize it as such. As they say, imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

I have influences, many influences, but it’d be hard to know who by specifically looking at my work. I look to Bill Amend for color, I look to Bill Watterson for minute details in the background, I look to Gary Larson for the offbeat humor, I admire the craziness that is Robert Crumb, and I can’t deny the simple prowess that is perspective in Charles Schultz’s work. These are artists that have shaped me growing up–and even if I can’t see their guidance in my work, maybe others can. I don’t know. I just draw how I draw.

Maybe Supertown will be the ball that starts rolling. Only time will tell.

You remain turned away
Turning further every day
