No to the Beer, Yes to the Beard

BEER: Drink me.
WIMP: Um, what’s your name?
BEER: Don’t matter. Drink me.
WIMP: Are you…an ale?
BEER: Maybe. No. Drink me. I taste like water. I’m mostly water.
WIMP: I dunno. You kinda burn my tongue.
BEER: Wow, you are a wimp. Drink me.
WIMP: I like Coronas in the summer. And Guinness is good, any time. Are you one of those?
BEER. Drink me.
WIMP: Is that all you say?
BEER: Don’t you wanna have fun?
WIMP: I do have fun. I draw a comic strip about my life and the little moments in it. Usually there’s no beer involved though. Some wine.
BEER: Drink me.
WIMP: Fine, fine.
BEER: Yay!
WIMP: ::dumps BEER down the drain::

Like the sun through the trees you came to love me
Like a leaf on the breeze you blew away

#363 – Tara’s Dad’s Birthday Dinner

with 14 comments

That’s right. For once, my memory has failed me. I blame the fact that too many moments built up in my mind and then, sorta like a balloon with too much air (no, I’m not saying I’m full of hot air), pop it went. Or is that a weasel? Moving on…

I remember wine, laughs, quiet moments, awkward unearthings, text messages, bugs in the airs, dogs at our feet, food on our plates (BBQ shrimp and pasta salad and roasted veggies mmm yum), blueberry crumble pie that was crumb-buh-lievable, faux phone calls from imaginary neighbors, Romeo below the balcony, and a somewhat heated discussion of politics which I, being a journalism major and all, politely stayed out of. It’s amazing my head doesn’t explode more often with all the shtuff I keep in it.

Question of the day: I’ve got nothing. How about you ask me something? Anything at all.

If things get real for me down here
Promise to take me back to the tune
We played before you went away

#361 – White Sangria

with 7 comments

Seriously, y’all should be jealous. But maybe, just maybe if you are nice enough and compliment D until she is beaming more than a billion stars could ever hope for, she might share the recipe. It was simply fantastic, especially the fruit that had been soaking up all that peach schnapps mmm. I want more. Beach house in OC, perhaps?

So, the LOST season finale was pretty dang great. I won’t be spoiling any of it for those that missed out tonight, but I got especially weepy when a certain time-lost lovers ended all the mindfuck and found each other…yet again. Gah, I’m such a mess for them. During the commercials I sang a song in their honor…

Lastly, thanks to Memorial Day, we’re already at Friday. That’s nice. The short workweek went surprisingly fast for moi. I know I say this a lot, but I plan to get a lot of shtuff done this weekend. Maybe even do some research on how to spend my rebate check (yes, Mom, it arrived!)…my eyes are flickering towards a lappy top. Er, laptop. Anyways, what are your plans for the weekend?

All I want is to feel this way
To be this close, to feel the same
All I want is to feel this way
The evening speaks, I feel it say

#360 – Unrecognizable Woman

with 11 comments

…and only about a few hours ago, as I was drawing this comic, did I realize who she was. She used to work in the mailroom at Richard Stockton College of NJ when I was a slave employee there. I used to say hello to her five days a week for like forever. I guess we never really learned each other’s names though. Our relationship was thus: I walked up to the counter, smiled, she gave me the day’s mail, I left. Anyways, if she somehow stumbles over here…hello! Give me my mail now!

In other news, I’ve put my writing blog Wistful Writings on official hiatus. I can’t really manage both of these sites, and the truth is I’m done with writing about writing. For the most part. I will share news when it happens, of course. That said, here’s what short stories I’m having published in 2008/2009 so far:

* “So Go the Seasons” – forthcoming in Black Gate (???).
* “Pigment” – forthcoming in Farrago’s Wainscot, Issue 8 (October 2008).
* “Imaginary Puissance” – forthcoming in Fictitious Force (???).
* “The Feet Eaters” – originally published in Aberrant Dreams (January 2007), this is being re-printed in Aberrant Dreams I, The Awakening — Anthology (August 2008), which should be in actual bookstores if I remember correctly.

So, there you go. My spout of self-promotion. Don’t worry…it doesn’t happen often. D, you already know the story of “So Go the Seasons” since I, in a Sangria-induced daze, told you it in its entirety.

Wow, it’s already Thursday. Huh, how ’bout that?

You’ll never take this stop to make amends that we can’t meet
You’re starting over to remember who you were
Wasting everything on what you’re living for
I know the reason and there’s just no reason

#329 – No Carding

with 13 comments

Three days until NY Comic Con 08. Still trying to figure things out. Hoping for the best. Weally, weally, weally hoping for the best. I got my fingers and toes crossed. Not my eyes, that gives me a headache.

Question of the Day: I know I’ll upset some people with this, but toooooo bad. When was the last time you were carded buying liquor?

To the opium den and the barroom gin
In the Belmont chair playing violins
The gambler’s face cracks into a grin
As he lays down the king of spades

#317 – Night at Trinity

with 9 comments

Welcome to Friday. Despite having Monday off, I felt like this week went by entirely too slow. Why does that always happen? If you have scientific proof as to how this phenomenon occurs, please let me know.

The Trinity pub
is, surprisingly, the type of bar I like. Anyone who knows me understands that I dislike 99.6% of all bars, bar-goers, and bar antics. But here’s where the Irish hole-in-the-wall lifts the veil: they have couches. And it’s a very laid-back place, with music and Guinness (yay, I spelled it wrong in the comic!). So that works for me. Though I suspect my bar quota for the year has now been met.

Weekend plans? If you got ’em, I want to hear ’em.

#294 – The Auction

with 6 comments

It’s a real interesting place, brimming with real interesting people that are there to spend their hard-earned cash on some real interesting things. Some I’d call junk, other items I’d call neat. It ranges from furniture to fine china to a jar of buttons. There was a nice chess set, but it was missing a pawn. Best thing up for auction though? That’d be an unopened six-pack of Billy Beer. I shudder to think what such a drink might taste like now, some thirty years later.

Anyways, I didn’t bid on anything, but merely went to observe. It was a good time and I’m definitely gonna go again. I’m still looking for old comic books and toys…yes, I’m still 9 years old at heart. Accept it. I have.
