#281 – Arizona Vacation, Part Eleven

with 9 comments

So, here we all are…the end. It was a great vacation, mostly for just how dang relaxing it was. I didn’t think about anything stressful, just enjoyed time with the fam and a kitty cat. Arizona’s a nice place, with a ton of cool shops and locales to hit up. Personally, if it wasn’t for those 156 degree days in the summer, I could see myself living out there. Maybe it was just how I saw things, but life felt like it moved a little slower, and that’s a-okay in my book. But that’d be a big move. Some days I still don’t know how Bitsy just up and did it…guess that’s why she’s the adopted one. 😛

What’s the best vacation you ever took?

#280 – Arizona Vacation, Part Ten

We make quite a comedic duo.

Not feeling well this morning so I’m just going to leave you with a favorite quote of mine about airports. It is from The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul by Douglas Adams (1991) and looks a little something like this:

It can hardly be a coincidence that no language on Earth has ever produced the phrase, “as pretty as an airport.”

Airports are ugly. Some are very ugly. Some attain a degree of ugliness that can only be the result of a special effort. This ugliness arises because airports are full of people who are tired, cross, and have just discovered that their luggage has landed in Murmansk (Murmansk airport is the only known exception to this otherwise infallible rule), and architects have on the whole tried to reflect this in their designs.

They have sought to highlight the tiredness and crossness motif with brutal shapes and nerve-jangling colors, to make effortless the business of separating the traveler forever from his or her luggage or loved ones, to confuse the traveler with arrows that appear to point at the windows, distant tie racks, or the current position of Ursa Minor in the night sky, and wherever possible to expose the plumbing on the grounds that it is functional, and conceal the location of the departure gates, presumably on the grounds that they are not.

I think he was talking about Heathrow Airport, but really…it could be about any of ’em.

#266 – Arizona Vacation, Part One

I decided to color the comics for my latest vacation to Arizona a bit differently. Heck, you might not even notice it. Or you may. Either way, hush…I’m just experimenting.

Oh, and happy Monday! I know you’re all beaming with excitement, right? Right?
